It gets interesting at 3:49 if you don’t have the patience to sit through classical music. If you don’t, I recommend this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9LCwI5iErE

Photograph from Gordonton, N.C. 1939. I wonder what kind of music they listened to?

The Haiti earthquake may be old news (and this link too), but this digital album is more than enough of an excuse to donate again and to acquire some fingerlickin’ beats.

Revenge of the Music Geeks - Episode 5, Season 0

No you are not seeing her boobs, she’s wearing a shirt…perv…yeah I made the same mistake too. I hate myself for it. Flickr source from just.K
As you know, last week (ok at the time of this posting, a damn month ago, give me a break I have labs due…sorry, sorry, that was the redbull talking) the Past was just another music show and I simply played requested songs from a reddit discussion. However I purposely didn’t play music requested by the reddit user cassidoodle. Her requests were plentiful, so I saved it for this show.

Viewer Requests

There are music requests out there that have been waiting for me to honor for a very long time. Flickr Source from the Smithsonian Institute
Not all show’s are gonna be an issue of The Past, but just another music show. I’m a college student, give me a break!
This week’s show was a viewer request show. Most of the requests came from this online discussion I started on reddit. The user cassidoodle was more than helpful, so I’m going to dedicate my entire show next week to her vinyl rips and music suggestions. Also, if you have a song, forgotten to the pages of history that you want to be brought back to the public consciousness (by public I mean the small group of people listening to my show), send me your requests below or email them to me.

“In C” - Issue 2, Volume 0

A few of the 53 patterns played for the composition of “In C.” Source: flickr by bpbailey
The KUCI library has an abundant and rich classical-music vinyl collection. While browsing through, I come across the first released recording of Terry Riley’s In C from Colombia Records. I heard about this musical piece from this MetaFilter post, so you can imagine my excitement and surprise to come across such a gem.
Instead of just dryly playing this record on air, I decided to produce a story piece to give you, fellow listeners, some context on this piece.
Click “Read More” for a link to the audio story piece and a transcript of the recording, plus show playlist and a way to try the music.

Good Mood - Issue 1, Volume 0

A past expression of the feeling of good mood or the forcing of one (i.e. “Smile for the camera!”). Source: flickr by roberthuffstutter
And so begins the journey. The show that shall be known as The Past has begun its journey on the electromagnetic medium that is radio. Because of this occasion, I’m nervous, yes, but underneath that instinct mood I am in a good mood. Sure, this journey shall be bumpy at the start, but I expect great things! … hopefully

For this episode I attempted the fine art of interviewing. I was terrible at it, all I got out of the experience were some soundbites. Here are four that I used for my show, they are an interview of my sister Nairi and her partner Chris. ( .m4a files )
